• Get paid to work as a Digital Journalist

First up, the fun stuff anyone can do: Every member of DigitalJournal.com (Citizens and Digital Journalists) can post blogs, upload photos, join Groups, comment and vote on articles and photos, and subscribe to news and alerts. These actions can be done by anyone.
However, we also offer everyone the chance to get paid to report news as a Digital Journalist. At this time, we’re only offering payment for news articles written by Digital Journalists so the blogs, images, Groups and other activities are meant to build community (they’re unpaid).
We also offer everyone the chance to get paid to report news as a Digital Journalist. As a pioneer in revenue-sharing online, DigitalJournal.com devised a way to ensure all contributors could get paid for their work and we were one of the very first sites where regular people get paid for contributing. Unlike most websites where bloggers post for free (and the company takes in all the ad revenue), DigitalJournal.com shares a portion of its advertising revenue with all Digital Journalists through what we call our “moneypot.” With an always-growing cash pool, every single Digital Journalist gets a chance to compete for a share of the moneypot. The more you contribute, the more you earn.
Scores are determined based on how many articles you contribute and how much attention they get. We count both votes and pageviews so the more attention your work receives, the more you can earn. We also pay bonuses for original on-the-ground reporting and interviews. For a detailed breakdown of how we pay, and how to maximize what you can earn, refer to this detailed article here.
At the beginning of the month, all accounts that exceed $10 will receive an email notification to collect payment via PayPal (if you do not have a PayPal account, you will be sent a prompt to create one). All earnings are in U.S. dollars.
In order to become a paid Digital Journalist, you must submit a sample of writing. Create an account on the site then hover over the red "Contribute" button on the top of the page. From here, simply click the “Post News” and you will be prompted to submit a short bio and sample of writing. Note: You’ll only have to do this once – as soon as you are approved you can post news as often as you like.
Once you’re approved, you can click the red Contribute button, and then "Post News" at the top of the page and you will be paid for your news articles. If you want to take a break from the serious news reporting, you can post for fun in your blog.
If you aren’t ready to start reporting news yet, you can start out as a Citizen and just stick with your blog. You can apply to get paid as a Digital Journalist later!

• What we look for in digital journalists

If you want to report news as a Digital Journalist, we ask you to first provide a sample of writing for our editors to review.
To do this, click the red "Contribute" button on the front page of DigitalJournal.com and click "Post News" (Note: You must do this from a computer, not Digital Journal's mobile site).
Once you click "Post News" you'll be taken to a screen where you can provide a short bio and a sample of your writing.
We are a news site so in approving your application to work as a Digital Journalist, we will be looking for news-related articles on current events. We only publish news articles, as you can tell by reading through the work on the front page.
You might be professional journalist, an experienced blogger, an amateur author or even just a regular Joe or Jane who wants to be part of the news gathering process — whoever you are, you’re welcome on DigitalJournal.com. As a Digital Journalist we want you to cover whatever is happening in your city, town or country.
All Digital Journalists cover news. News coverage is not a personal story about stuff that bothers you, and we don't accept generic articles that are encyclopedic in nature. All Digital Journalists cover news only, so if you want to write about more general topics, do so in your blog (more info on blogging).
And remember, news doesn't have to be boring so don't let this scare you away. Take a look through the top news on the front page and you will see quite a bit of fun and entertaining content.
Take a look at our Editorial Guidelines for more info, and here are some helpful News Tips.
If you’re nervous, confused or still have a question about how something is done, drop us a line or contact one of DigitalJournal.com’s many Digital Journalists -- we’re all friendly and are happy to help.
