Despite the documents pertaining to Canada's knowledge of Afghan detainees being blacked out or just not released at all, an Ottawa professor said the full release of the documents would show the government knew more than it claims.

It appears that the Conservative government is pulling out all the stops to block further examination of allegations that the Canadian government knew the military was handing over its Afghan prisoners to face torture at the hands of Afghan authorities.

Members of Canada's parliament passed a motion yesterday that orders the government of Canada to release documents pertaining to the detention of Afghans by the Canadian military.

When Richard Colvin came forward with a public statement that Canada knowingly handed its Afghan detainees over to certain torture in 2006-2007, Prime Minister Stephen Harper had rejected a judicial inquiry.

In a move designed to strategically enhance the Conservative Party's position before an intense week begins on Parliament Hill, Canada's Defence Minister Peter MacKay and General Walter Natynczyk, gave a press conference late Sunday in Halifax.

The accusation of Canadian complicity in the torture of Afghan detainees who had been turned over to Afghan authorities is not new.
