The Cook County Medical Examiner has just too many John and Jane Does. In a controversial move, they have started posting photos of the unidentified dead bodies on their website, in the hopes that families of the deceased will come forward.

This week the remains of a man were found in a crawl space in Toronto on Parliament Street near Shutter Avenue. The space is in the farthermost recesses of an abandoned building with a sales sign.
The U.S. Army sent a letter to 7,000 families of soldiers killed in Iraq and in Afghanistan, but rather than addressing them personally, they used a generic name “John Doe” to address the families.
