Sex offender arrested after boy, 10, stabbed in Wendy's washroom
It is alleged after the boy refused the sex offender's advances in a locked washroom at a Portland, Oregon restaurant, he was stabbed numerous times. The man now under arrest has a long record for crimes against children.
The 10-year-old was with his family at a Portland Wendy's when he went into the men's room. It is alleged that Adam Lee Brown, 48, was standing just outside the washroom when the child went in. Brown followed the little boy and attempted to sexually assault him. He is accused of stabbing the 10-year-old several times after the little boy fought back.
The boy's father tried to get into the washroom but the door was locked. After a manager came with a key, Brown shoved the boy out and several customers held the door shut, preventing Brown from leaving the washroom. After police arrived, Brown refused to come out and said he had a gun. The restaurant was evacuated and after a two hour standoff, the ex-con surrendered.
The 10-year-old was taken to hospital in serious condition and required surgery. The Atlanta Journal and Constitution
reports police said the child would have died had he not received immediate attention.
reports Brown appeared in court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to several charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault. He was wearing a "suicide smock;" special clothing that cannot be torn into strips that prisoners can use to hang themselves.
At the time of the attack, Brown, who is HIV positive, was on parole for previous convictions involving children. Northwest Cable News
reports in the early 1990s, Brown was charged with 43 counts relating to the sexual assault of children. He later pleaded guilty to three counts of sodomy and was sentenced to 15 years in jail. All the other charges, including exposing the children to HIV, were dropped. Brown was paroled after serving 11 years.
"He's sick. He's a monster," his ex-wife is quoted as saying.
is reporting parole officials issued a warrant for Brown's arrest on June 15. It is alleged the sex offender failed to report to his parole officer and changed his residence without notifying the authorities.
