Has Facebook changed your email yet?

Facebook has put in place a new 'feature' with, as far as I can find, zero fanfare and very little widespread notification of the change. The change is a simple alteration in the primary email for your Facebook account. And before anyone starts getting concerned, the email can be changed back to your preferred email account. CNN and Mashable, both report on the change, which unbeknown to some of us, was being discussed last April. The new email account listed as your primary address is a johnsmith@facebook.com address, instead of whatever you had initially listed on your profile page. The old email isn't gone, it's just no longer the default email address. The problem though is simple. Who out there is actually using their Facebook.com address for anything? Is there actually someone who uses that Facebook account who isn't a high school or college computer nerd? (no offense meant to those who might be using it though) Mashable posits Facebook as having something of a Honey Badger attitude, and I have to agree. When a company the size of Facebook decides they know what you need, the alternative to accepting that change is rather limited. The options are usually to simply opt out of the use of the service. In this case however, there is still a fix for the errant email address, as noted at CNN: "Visit your Timeline or profile page and select "About" under your contact information. You can then hide your Facebook email address from the contact page and elect to highlight another e-mail address." Not a lot of trouble, and not a lot of fuss, the problem is that it wasn't widely announced to the non-geeksters who just love to tweak the way programs work.
