Twitter appeal saves couple's wedding
They were childhood sweethearts who were planning the perfect wedding for eighteen months. Then disaster struck when their wedding venue went bust just before Christmas. Twitter, however, saved the day.
When Lauren Lane and Daniel Welch, both from Coleford near Bath in England received the letter from their planned wedding venue to say the company that owned it had gone into liquidation, they saw all their savings and their plans for their wedding go up in smoke. The Sun
reports that the couple received the email from the company just two days before Christmas. They quote Lauren as saying
"We were totally devastated and knew more or less straightaway that we would not be able to get our money back. The wedding was only six weeks away at the time and we had paid the balance. It ruined all our plans and our Christmas with our two-year old son".
Fate, however had other ideas. First they were able to secure another venue thanks to Lauren's dad dipping into his pension fund but there was still all the other wedding items to be found such as rings, flowers and so on. According to the Daily Mail
, Lauren started sending out messages on Twitter saying "Please help and RT, Wedding Venue goes bust with 6 weeks to go and our £4.5k"
The bridesmaids, friends and family started re-tweeting and before long a huge campaign was underway. The message was sent to celebrities such as Davina McCall and Dannii Minogue both of whom retweeted the message to their thousands of followers.
Thanks to the celebrities, offers of help came flooding in with a jewellery company offering them rings, a cake company giving them a free three tiered chocolate cake and several other services were given free. Wedding News
reports that the couple were also offered the services of a magician, a make-up artist and a photographer, either free or at a very reduced rate. Lauren, 27, said that
"the help she and her new husband received from well-wishers made their day all the more special"
The happy couple were finally able to make that walk up the aisle on Saturday Feb. 25, a week earlier than planned but with everything just right for a perfect day. The couple had tweeted invites to Dannii Minogue and Davina McCall but the celebrities did not put in an appearance.
Mr and Mrs Welch will not be having a honeymoon as they want to pay back Lauren's father the money that he took from his pension fund.
