Life in prison for man who killed his newborn son
A Red Bay man will spend life in prison after pleading guilty to killing his new born son in 2005. After entering the plea, he turned to the mother of the child and said, "I'm sorry for what I did."
In a report from WAAYTV
, 32 year old Joey Waldrop entered a plea Tuesday.
reports that Waldrop was arrested, tried and convicted and sentenced to death, but earlier this year, the Alabama Court of Appeals threw out the conviction claiming the jury wasn't properly instructed by the judge. Waldrop is waiting for his second trial.
reports that the child was found unconscious in the family's home and died three days later. Arrested and charged in 2006 for Capital Murder, Waldrop was convicted in 2007 for the crime and sentenced to die.
The plea is for a lesser charge, since Waldrop confessed to the crime of a reckless act that caused the child's death, not as an intentional act of murder.
