Scotiabank Giller Prize 2008 Shortlist Announced


The shortlist for the 2008 Scotiabank Giller Prize has been announced. 5 authors will vie for the prize that will be announced on November 11, 2008 in a television special. Jack Rabinovitch founded The Giller Prize in 1994 in honour of his late wife Doris Giller, who died of cancer in April 1993.Since 2005 it has been known as the Scotiabank Giller Prize.

The shortlist is:

Through Black Spruce by Joseph Boyden, published by Viking Canada

Barnacle Love by Anthony Da Sa, published by Doubleday Canada

Good To a Fault by Marina Endicott, published by Freehand Books

Cockroach by Rawi Hage, published by House of Anansi

The Boys in the Trees by Mary Swan, published by Henry Holt


The finalists were chosen by Margaret Atwood, Bob Rae, and Colm Toibin.


The official website is running a contest in which the grand prize is a trip to any Canadian literary festival the winner chooses. Participants are asked to guess the winner of the Giller prize.
