Sprint has reported record sales for it's new touch- screen phone 'Instinct' across stores in the U.S. The new phone seems to be a decent competitor for Apple's 3G iPhone which is set to release on 11th July. Moreover, the phone comes at a price that is $70 cheaper to the Apple's iPhone to be launched through AT&T. The Instinct is priced at $129 for a two year contract compared to iPhone's $199.

John Garcia, president of Sprint's Wireless Division said

The record pace of Instinct sales has led to temporary shortages of the device at some locations across the United States. The strong early response tells us that wireless customers recognize Instinct as a highly innovative and convenient touch-screen device combined with the fast speeds available on the largest national mobile broadband network
.

In Canada also, Bell mobility is trying to hit back at the Rogers much-anticipated iPhone by selling the 'Samsung Instinct' at a lesser price and at a cheaper monthly subscription fee. The phone is set to hit the stores on 8th August. The price details goes like this.

Instinct costs around $190 for a 3 year plan while the 8GB iPhone costs around $260 for the same period.

A phone like Instinct seems to be a compromise for people who want to have an iPhone, but not ready to pay that much.
