According to recent United Nations reports the violence in Kenya still rages across the country. In the cities of Kericho, Nakuru, Nairobi and Mombasa, at least ten people were hacked to death in what is being called ethnic violence while dozens of horse are being set on fire. Kericho was the site where the worst incident too place when six people were killed and 50 houses burned last Saturday night. While in Nairobi, at least three people were killed in the Huruma slums and 13 were admitted to hospital with machete cuts on Sunday. “The killings have to be investigated expeditiously and impartially, and anyone found responsible for human rights abuses must be brought to justice,” UN human rights Chief Louise Arbour stated. She added “There must not be, in any case, impunity for what has occurred in Kenya in the past few weeks.” Arbour has called on Kenyan leaders to engage in open and constructive dialogue, including addressing the serious human rights violations that have occurred, noting that “any lasting peace in Kenya must be based on truth and accountability.”
