OP-ED: Touch Makes The World Go Round
Do you touch someone everyday? Skin to skin contact? Simple pats on the back? Do you crave the touch of another? I am a touchy feely person. I need to touch and be touched. It's an act of love with my family. An act of connecting with others.
When I meet someone I shake their hand. When I am leaving someone after a visit I hug them. It's personal and connecting.
Touch can bring a smile to someone who misses it. Touch can heal past wounds. Touch can stop an argument before it ends a relationship.
Loving touches can change people just as damaging touches can alter the way people feel.
Our skin was meant to feel others. It's on the outside of us for a reason. It's out there to "understand" how the world is. Our skin tells us when it's cold or hot. Pain sensors in it stop us from doing stupid things.
It was meant to feel.
We are meant to feel.
Skin shouldn't be a barrier for us. We should be able to feel others and express ourselves in a kind manner.
Try it out. Touch someone today. See a smile form.
It's free and trust me, the smile you feel may even be your own.
