- Comedian inks deal with the world's largest poker site, invites
Canadians to log on and win a trip with him to the Bahamas -
TORONTO, Aug. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - Canada's favourite TV teacher, Gerry Dee, has been busy over the summer
break. Today, PokerStars.net, the world's largest poker site, announced
a sponsorship agreement with the comedian known to many from his weekly
sitcom Mr. D. He will appear in TV commercials and at live poker tournaments for
PokerStars.net and the site has signed on as the title sponsor of the
Gerry Dee Comedy Tour.
"I'm better at math and statistics than the teacher you see on TV, so
I'm not a bad poker player," says Dee. "I'm no pro but I've always been
a bit of a poker buff. I really admire the skill it takes to compete at
the top level. I'm excited about this partnership and am looking
forward to improving my game!"
A commercial featuring Dee will air throughout the fall to promote a
series of free online poker tournaments where Canadians can win a trip
to the Bahamas to play in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) -
the largest poker tournament outside of Las Vegas. The PCA annually
draws players from around the world for ten days of poker and fun in
the sun at the Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island, Bahamas.
From September through to November, PokerStars.net will award one
online winner per month with flights for two and six nights'
accommodations at the Atlantis resort, some spending money and a seat
in the PCA Main Event. The prize is valued at almost $20,000
Dee will attend the PCA and film his experience in the Bahamas for a TV
special. He will also participate in the action at the poker table and
recently had the opportunity to pick the brain of one of the biggest
names in the game. Canadian poker player Daniel Negreanu was on set to
film an episode of Dee's hit TV series Mr. D. The episode featuring Negreanu will air in January 2013.
"I've played poker with quite a few actors over the years and many are
surprisingly good players," says Negreanu, who is no stranger to the
screen, having made cameo appearances in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the music video for Katy Perry's Waking up in Vegas. "It will be interesting to see how Gerry does at the PCA. I'm happy to
have him join the contingent of Canadian players representing
PokerStars, but I think he'll need a bit of beginner's luck in the
Bahamas!"
