Lightspeed Systems Hosts My Big Campus Summer Academy
Bakersfield, CA (PRWEB) July 09, 2012
Lightspeed Systems was excited to host K12 technology leaders for the second annual My Big Campus Summer Academy. Over 60 technology trainers, teachers, administrators, and IT staff came together for the full-day training and networking event held at the beautiful Andaz hotel in downtown San Diego on June 28, 2012. The primary goal of Summer Academy was to equip the participants to effectively train others on how to use My Big Campus in ways that improve learning outcomes, home communication, and professional development. The Summer Academy is another example of Lightspeed Systems’ passion for training and collaborating with educators - working together to accomplish amazing things in the classroom.
To model 21st century learning and ensure the Summer Academy was a success, training on the platform’s features was conducted virtually in the weeks leading up to the conference. Participants created bundles, facilitated discussions, took quizzes, and grew their professional networks - all before the conference took place and all inside My Big Campus. This proactive, collaborative training model is a trademark of Lightspeed Systems and showcases the company’s commitment to creating positive relationships with its customers.
A highlight of the Summer Academy were the dozen breakout workshops led by the My Big Campus Community Engagement Team and Senior MBC Coaches - educators who lent their expertise and provided real-world examples of My Big Campus in the classroom. Workshop discussions covered many issues relevant to K12 educational technology, including BYOD, digital citizenship, and social media in the classroom. Attendees were encouraged to backchannel during the workshops, using MBC, and share notes - ensuring that everyone was able to share ideas and benefit from every session. As a result of this year’s Summer Academy and other training sessions, there are nearly 100 expert Coaches ready to train their fellow educators and help schools effectively implement My Big Campus.
Karen Selwood from Lake Dallas Middle School shared, “I had a wonderful time at Summer Academy and I am looking forward to using My Big Campus in every aspect of my job next year. I have big plans for sharing this tool throughout our district!”
“The My Big Campus community engagement team was thrilled to see the learning and collaboration happening online before anyone took their first step toward San Diego,” said Merleen Johnson, Community Engagement Director at Lightspeed Systems. “In our short time together, relationships were cemented and show every indication that the group will thrive as a professional learning community to support effective uses of My Big Campus."
Plans are already underway for Summer Academy 2013.
