Located on the Wirral, just 10 minutes from Liverpool city centre and 20 minutes from Chester , they operate from 40,000 square feet premises, including picking and packing warehouses, call centre, marketing and design department, web team and a flagship superstore and furniture showroom.
The company began life as a 16 page mail-order brochure back in 1992 and now produces a 472 page hair catalogue and a 370 page beauty catalogue, along with salonsdirect.com, a full ecommerce website with in excess of 8,000 products.
“When we began, nobody believed our venture would work,” says Gareth, Managing Director, “Many suppliers we approached simply didn’t believe a mail order catalogue could ever work within the hairdressing industry. But we always had faith in our idea, and 20 years down the line we are hugely proud of our achievements.”
Their mission to deliver high quality professional salon products at value for money, direct to your door, still remains and they are constantly evolving to meet their customers’ high expectations.
“We always try and move with the times,” says Danielle Jones, Gareth’s daughter and marketing director, “Customers expect fast deliveries and we strive to have goods with our customers the very next day. Facebook has become an integral part of our marketing strategy, with 24,000 fans, it allows us to communicate with customers in a way we have never done before. We will be launching a new mobile website next month, to meet the demands of our many customers who are browsing our site using a mobile device. There are exciting times ahead!”
In spite of its rapid growth, Salons Direct still retains a firm grasp of its core values, identity and philosophy and remains very much so a family-run business, with both husband, wife, 2 daughters and a son in law heavily involved in the daily runnings of the business.
