Artist Terry Ribera continues to use his creativity during California’s stay at home order.
San Diego, CA- Remington Tattoo Shop owner Terry Ribera is now taking orders for animal portraits during California’s stay at home order. Complying with essential business only open order, Ribera has temporarily closed his North Park tattoo parlor and is back to his roots as an illustrative artist when he worked small art commissions and murals.
Ribera’s career as a tattoo artist began in 2001. His interest is geared towards Art Nouveau, Biomechanical, and Asian style tattoos. His primary focus on Illustrative tattooing has transitioned to pet portraits done on toned paper rather than skin. His hand-drawn portraits are created in colored pencils and alcohol markers. Client’s pets are represented, some are straight forward, others are anthropomorphized based on the client’s requests with period piece articles of clothing and accessories. An example of recently commissioned work is of a client requesting his pet portrayed in old western outlaw. Ribera’s finished piece shows a dog in a western hat, bandana tied around his neck, bandolier cross belt, smoking a cigar.
Ribera’s girlfriend and fellow artist Jasmine Worth is also taking commissions for the limited time during the shutdown. Worth’s are small 1.5” to 2” eye portraits of almost any subject, the clients, family or friends, or even pets. The portraits are completed in oil on illustration board. Her representations are of people in the image of classical painting. She usually creates art of the symbolic and surreal. Her artwork is shown in galleries across the world.
“Our goal with these paintings is to offer people affordable art during the COVID-19 shutdown,” says Terry Ribera of his work and Jasmine Worth’s. “We hope to give them a little piece of escape during these strange times. It’s actually a really nice change.” Any artwork previously created was for tattoos or galleries. With galleries closed, art by Ribera and Worth are both in a unique position to create art directly for the client.
Terry Ribera’s pet portraits start at $150 for monochrome and $250 for full color in 8×10. Jasmine Worth’s are $100.
