New BMW Mini wins ‘best-looking car’ award, production increases

The Stuttgart-published magazine awarded the ‘Autonis’ prize to the BMW Mini, based on reader votes. The vote looked at 10 categories and a total of 94 cars. In the Mini’s category, it was up against seven competitors. All in all, 17,378 people voted in the magazine’s competition.

“We at MINI Design are particularly proud to have won this award. Positive feedback from customers and fans is very encouraging to us in our day-to-day design work for the MINI brand,” said Anders Warming, head of Mini design, in a press release. “We very much look forward to pursuing this work further.”

The 2014 BMW Mini Cooper is a bit more than mini now, however, The new iteration increases the overall length of the car by 10 cm. Beyond the size, the car a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, both with BMW TwinPower twin-scroll turbo engines.

Earlier in September, the Mini production plant in Britain celebrated a unique milestone — the three millionth model rolled off the production line.

The unique car (a Hatch Cooper S) featured a Union Jack and Baroness Kramer, Britain’s transport minister, drove it. While the car has been popular, the factory is reportedly “bursting at the seams,” so some Minis will have to be manufactured outside of Britain.
