Grouping question

Posted Jul 15, 2008 by Sykos Masters in Internet 8 comments
Hey all,

I've noticed that when I'm reading another CJ's articles, they can be grouped with other ones that share a common thread. I'm wondering if there's some way that I can do the same to my own. I now have a collection of articles on the health crisis in NB, two (soon to be more) stories about French language instruction, and can see that I'm beginning to develop certain "pet projects".

I'd like to be able to have them grouped for easier access for myself, when writing fresh, and others that wish to read any ongoing developments.

    Sykos you can group any stories you like together so long as they are about the same subject. We treat the "group with" feature as though it's a way to group duplicates. We created the feature in the event two people write about the exact same subject (like the iPhone selling 1 million units, for example). Every writer has different perspectives so it's great to see multiple reports on the same subject sometimes. If you have an article that is the same topic as another feel free to use that feature. If you wrote about the same issue more than once it might also be appropriate to Group With. We just ask that it's about the same subject, not a "related" subject.

    @Gar

    I have a goal of one good idea a day. Considering I just woke up again, I hope to have another before the sun sets ... lol

    @Chris

    Understood completely. But, I'm not able to group my own articles together for some reason. I've tried to do so with the Plaster Rock pieces, but neither has a grouping button when I view them.

    Looks like there is a small bug Sykos -- you're right. Thanks for the head's up. We'll fix that.

    I've grouped your articles together for you in the meantime.

    Sykos I have to correct myself, as I looked into this further. It's not a bug it's actually a feature and something we designed intentionally.

    We don't let writers group new articles with ones that are older than 1 day. The reason being is because this feature is meant to cluster duplicates, so when something happens today it cannot be the same event that happened yesterday so there is no reason to Group With.

    If your articles are related, they can be linked to each other in the body of your article with a sentence saying "In previous coverage on DigitalJournal.com...."

    But if you want to Group With, you can only group the exact same news event and that is always occurring on the same day.

    Make sense?

    Thanks, Chris...even I didn't know that! (I didn't know that articles could only be 1 day old.)

    Makes sense. I was misunderstanding what grouping was for. I'll continue referencing any previous coverage then. I've gotta say, you're the most helpful "boss" I've ever had =D
