If there's any designer known for being bold and adventerous, it's Philippe Starck. Now he's turning his attention to environmental design -- on display in Milan recently, Starck showed off his wind turbine called Democratic Ecology.

View images of the unique turbine here, and see if its aesthetic appeals to you. It has a transparent design, and it exhibits an elegance not always associated with enviro-friendly products. Starck says Democratic Ecology will be available in September for $400.

Its eco benefits? It can generate 20 to 60 per cent of the energy needed to power a home.

Finally, Starck is adding equal weight to substance with style.

It's very short on the technical stuff. If you want to sell me a wind turbine, sell it on its efficiency not aesthetics.
