U.S. think tank targets Canadian students with anti climate-change message
It seems hardly necessary to state that borders against information, we do not need as we, in our scribbling, constantly fight such constraints. At the same time, before distribution of DVDs and brochures to 11,250 schools, it might be wise to see just how "balanced" the information is - information that critics of the critics are claiming is a campaign of misinformation.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty also received the institute's package but a spokesman said that the government is not taking advice from people who question climate change.
Jim Flaherty is a smart and wily politician who as all political survivors do, bend like a willow rather than stand like an oak. He will champion whichever cause is safe, and will swing with the changing breeze. If enough evidence, and credible scientists can be brought to the table with a compelling case to defuse the climate change hysteria, then the politicians will meekly oblige. The problem is that they have been meekly obliging the wrong side for over a decade now, investing political capital and hard currency, and working like cheerleaders for the Al Gore's and David Suzuli's and other influential mouthpieces of Environment Corp.. It's going to take a big appetite for crow pie to eat what is on the way: a complete repudiation of this whimsical hypothesis, and the people who have been profiting from it.
Whenever science says, "There is no debate, it has stopped being science and started acting like a cult. Science, and politics are supposed to welcome debate- thrive on it in fact. When they slam she blast screens shut, no one is served, and we are in danger of slipping into a totalitarian mindset. But then again, with conservative governments in Ottawa and Washington, the fields have already been prepared, and Jim Fraherty has proven to be as far Right as wrong can get.

First, I was pleasantly surprised that the Province article that I linked is still available.
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty also received the institute's package but a spokesman said that the government is not taking advice from people who question climate change.
Well, taking advice and listening to dissenting voices are two different things. As far as self-serving environmentalists are concerned, should we leave the decisions to those promoting business-as-usual?

I do not think that questioning Global Warming as a theory is the same thing as advocating "business as usual", Actually one would have to be very suspicious if say, Exxon or Shell and their comoncheros, were the sole sponsors of dissent. But the fact is that there is a large and growing body of scientists who dismiss the Greenhouse Gas business, and the IPCC, for many compelling reasons: solar cycles. the warming of the land in the Northern hemisphere, the discredited "hockey stick" graph chart endorsed by the IPCC and on and on. They conclude by saying that CO2 is a small factor in our climactic cycles, and a non-factor when it comes to climate change. It seems like political manouvering to lump all opposing voices in with the vested parties such as the oil companies, It is unfortunate too that so much focus has been spent on disseminating this flawed science, that truly worthy environmental issues will also be discredited along with it. Who is going to believe any environmentalist after the fraud of the warming issue moves into the public domain?
I think that the opponents of the Greenhouse Effect are only just getting their voices heard, and extensive public information and open debate are what is needed at this time. Sending packages off to schools is an ill-conceived tactic if only because it gives the appearance of tampering and propagandizing. But it is going to be difficult to get that information out over the media that have been so effective and invested in promoting the warming myth in the first place. However, the information must get out and so it will, with or without Jim Flaherty's concerted knowledge. But for any scientist to discourage debate is non-sensical for it stabs at the heart of what has made science so successful in the first place. For a politician to say that dissent is irresponsible (or as some have charged, criminal), is to abdicate his primary responsibility as a representative of the people, especially when he holds the office of Minister Of Finance, Flaherty xan potentially distribute untold sums of money at the chorus of "Gimmees" withing the environmental corporation.
The opponents of Global Warming should be targeting the Jim Flaherty's of this world- not school kids- and trust that the teachers of Canada are intellectually curious enough to root out the facts for themselves. I have not detected any rush on the part of the Tories to go down the Climate Change road, and unlike Stephan Dion, who is about to skewer himself on this issue, are playing a wait-and-see game. This seems very prudent given the way the debate is going! But in the meanwhile, I would love to see more legislation and money targeted at local environmental issues, such as the need for more sewage treatment plants, more regulation of dirty industries, more recycling enforcement stc. The Global Warming Issue is sucking the life out of the really important environmental calamities that continue to go on unabated. Does Flaherty accept those issues as valid, or do these need more debate too!
