Recently, I have watched the movie Underground:
The Julian Assange story. Weather you love Assange or hate him, weather you support Wikileaks or not, this movie had alot of eye opening, thought provoking insight into the past, present, and future. This thought provoking story begins with Julian Assange's mother, Christine Assange.
Christine Assange was a very courageous woman. Christine was an activist against nuclear weapons/wmd's. She participated in many protests against these weapons of mass destruction. Although these protests were small, they got the media's attention. Besides being an Activists and Protester, Christine saved her children and her self from cult life. Christine reminds me some of my mother. My mother never hesitated to protect her children/family. Christine also taught Julian that there are higher values in life. The main value was Truth. Today, Christine Assange continues to fight for her son's freedom and future. Christine also continues her fight for truth and transparency. Christine Assange is truly an inspiration to many.
Juilan Assange, in his early years, was one of those people that you could sense was going to have a huge impact on the world. At the age of 17, Julian was already a computer genius and hacker. Julian went by the name Mendax. It was amazing what you could do with a Commodore 64 computer in those days. Julians "awakening" began in June 1989. It was during then evening, June 1989, Julian, his girlfriend Electra, and two other friends went to see the movie
Koyaanisqatsi.
The most important images of the movie were the Soviet Tanks lined up, the Atomic Bomb, and Atomic Tests. These scenes were quite thought provoking to Julian because they depicted the worst War Crime the US and US Military ever committed. This horrific war crime is know as the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, August 6th & 9th, 1945. These 2 atomic bombs killed 150,00-246,000+.
The majority killed were innocent civilians. Newborns, babies, children, burt up within seconds. The surviving children soon died of radiation or other effects from the bombs. Human lives, within seconds, burned to ashes. Both these atomic bombs, Little Boy & Fatman were developed at Los Alamos Laboratory. Before the use or consideration of atomic bombs being dropped on Japan, the US considered chemical warfare against Japan to "save American lives". The chemicals to be used were mustard gas, phosgene, and cyanogen chloride. All of these chemicals would have devastating effects that would span generations, on not only enemy troops but innocent Japanese civilians as well. The war was already being won via air campaign against Japan. Julian Assange was a man with a conscience. Julian knew the crime that had been committed by use of these bombs. These images and knowledge, ignited a fire within Julian. Julian understood why his mother protested these weapons of mass destruction. Julian also know that protesting was not enough.
One day, Julian seen the Berlin Wall coming down on television. One of Julians friends stated "Peace on earth". Julian then stated "You think? There has never been peace, they have bombs to sell". How very true this statement is. It was then that Julian realized, as long as there is bombs, wars, and profits to be made from these bombs and wars, there can truly never be peace in our world. Julian had access to the US MilNet (Military Net). What he uncovered, but did not know, was the beginning to Desert Storm.
Then Julian seen George Bush SR. on tv, announcing the US was at war against Iraq. Upon further research, Julian discovered the first war crime of Desert Storm, a civilian shelter in Bagdad, Iraq was bombed by the US Military. The occupants of this shelter were mostly women and children. 400 were killed. The US claimed it was accidental. Julian discovered proof that this shelter had protected status. As with the war with Japan, the US was now targeting civilians in Iraq. From this day on, Julian knew what his mission. In 1992-2002, Julian concentrated his time in being a single father. In 2006,
Wikileaks was formed. Four years later the truth would be revealed about Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Afghanistan War.
Julian Assange is not an "Enemy Of The State". Julian Assange is one person with the courage to try and change the world for the better. Wars cost money but in the long term they can be very profitable. Governments can push secret agendas via wars. Soldiers give their lives for their countries in these wars. The highest price is paid by the innocent civilians, women, children, babies, newborns, that are killed. Wars, in the name of "Freedom", for profit.
Regardless of who starts a war, agendas and money are a huge part. Julian Assange knew that peace can not be accomplished as long as there are wars and profits to be made from these wars and sales of weapons. Protests are a major way to end wars and also try to make this world a better place, but there is another way. That way is "Truth Via Disclosure/Transparency".
