It wasn't that "The Amazing Spider-Man" wasn't going to win the weekend, it was more of the super hero glut factor coming into play. Or did not, for that matter.
Spidey easily spun his way to the top spot and did it quite impressively. Not only did the movie take in a solid $7.5 million at the Midnight showings, it held up nicely as the Holiday hump day progressed and then the weekend follow through.
Now comes the tricky part. There will be numbers out there for the weekend take, which is an estimated $65 million for the webbed one, but the total take is needed here as well. That number would be, according to Box Office
Mojo, hovering at $140 million. That was a projection made earlier as well. The actuals will be announced Monday afternoon.
Perhaps an amazing could be added to "Ted," too. Another fine weekend for the talking, foul-mouthed Bear. That R-rated comedy took in another $32.5 million, bring its total to $120 million. By the way, "Ted" had the highest opening for an
R-rated comedy - ever, last week.
As for
"Savages," it settled for No. 4 with a not-so-good $16 million and the concert film from Katy Perry was in at No. 8, $7.1 million.
Weekend
1. "The Amazing Spider-Man" - $65 million
2. "Ted" - $32.5 million
3. "Brave" - $20.1 million
4. "Savages" - $16.1 million
5. "Magic Mike" - $15.6 million
"Magic Mike" dropped 60 percent in its second weekend out so those who wanted to have that Girls Night Out, did so already.
The other list this week will be concert openings.
Concert films
1. "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour - $31,117,834
2. "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" - $29,514,054
3. "Michael Jackson's This Is It" - $23,234,394
4. "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience"- $12,510,374
5. "Katy Perry: Part of Me" - $7,150,000
Note: "Part of Me" it opened earlier so the total reflected in this list is just for the weekend. For all-time concert films, that honor is now Justin Bieber's as he passed Michael Jackson.
