A.J. and his owner, David Cota, were big hits on the "Tonight" show during the end of the Johnny Carson era. But now thanks to the phenomena of web video, the incredible A.J. is staging a big comeback at the age of 16.
His amazing sporting skills are impressing celebrities from Sesame Street's Big Bird to Tippi Hendren, star of the classic 1963 Hitchcock thriller "The Birds" but probably better known today as Melanie Griffith's mother.
"I've never seen a little parakeet that was that athletic," said Hedren. "He was really astounding with his golf game and the basketball. It's just too cute, too adorable. And he looked like he was having fun with it, too."
When Cota first tried to teach A.J. to hold a miniature putter in his beak, the bird snapped it right in half. Now A.J. can not only sink a putt with the best of them, he would probably put Tiger Woods to shame.
In the video, A.J. plays dead, knocks in two putts and dunks a basketball under the commands of owner Cota.
