Multi-Grammy nominee and Red Bow recording country artist Joe Nichols opened up about his latest studio album "Crickets," which features 16 brand new tracks.
His latest single "Sunny and 75" sits at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts, for the week ending November 9.
"It's a large record and it's a goal for all of us to make a large album to make the people feel that they are getting quite the bargain," Nichols said. "The extra music makes it a good bargain."
Nichols continued, "I think this is the best album that I have done in my career. I really believe that because it has many elements that I have never put together in one album together. It has quality singles that are the best singles that I have had in my career. Then, it has the traditional side of me that people have come to know over the last 11 years. There is also a new sound that counters that on this new record. It makes the album a complete picture."
He revealed that his personal favorite tune on the album is "Footlights," which is a cover of the Merle Haggard classic. "I have a long history with that song," he shared. "It was my dad's favorite song when I was growing up as a kid. He would tell me that this song says it all. It's about being an entertainer, and I felt a personal connection to the song for many years. I had always wanted to cut a song since I started making records and now I had the opportunity. It's also my favorite Merle Haggard song, so all of these things combined make it my most personal moment on the record. It's my favorite."
Nichols added that Country Music Hall of Famer, Merle Haggard, is his greatest musical influence in his life. "Merle and my father have an equal billing as my biggest influences," he said.
Regarding his future plans, Nichols remarked, "We are certainly off to a fantastic start with 'Sunny and 75.' It feels like we have a legitimate hit, which is the foundation that we need to launch the next level of thinking. It feels like we have two or three more behind it to make this album even more special and something I never had before which is consecutive hits back to back."
