Phillip Phillips released his sophomore single “Gone, Gone, Gone,” to radio on Feb. 11, 2013. It is the follow-up to his smash lead-off single “Home” and it is the third track from his debut studio album "The World from the Side of the Moon."
Although Phillip either wrote or co-wrote the majority of the songs from his latest CD that was not the case with “Gone, Gone, Gone.” It was co-written by Todd Clark, Derek Fuhrmann and Gregg Wattenberg (who also served as the record’s co-producer).
Phillip Phillips was the winner of the eleventh season of American Idol and he is signed to Interscope Records. His coronation song “Home” peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts and it is spending its fifth consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts (for the week ending March 2, 2013).
Similar to “Home,” Phillip’s vocals on his newest song are rich and reminiscent to those of such artists as Dave Matthews and John Mayer. He has previously performed “Gone, Gone, Gone” for a StageIt show on Nov. 15, 2012, when he sang with the students of the P.S. 22 chorus in Staten Island, New York. The proceeds from that event helped the Siller Foundation and the Red Cross, in order to provide aid for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
In summation, Phillip Phillips’ newest single “Gone, Gone, Gone” is a breath of fresh air. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars. Phillip sings with a lot of heart and he is a very gifted acoustic guitar player as well. Hopefully, when more stations add the song on their rotation, it will fare just as well as his debut hit “Home,” if not better.
