The City of Nazareth, or Natsrat or Natseret as it’s pronounced in Hebrew and Arabic, is located in the lower Galilee region. It is the place where, according to tradition, the angel Gabriel told Mary she would conceive by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Nazareth and the Galilee are the places where Jesus spent his childhood and youth. Then, Nazareth was a was a small Jewish farming village of a few hundred people. Today, modern day Nazareth is a vibrant city with a growing population of around 80,000, almost all of whom are either Muslim (70%) or Christian (30%) Arabs.
During December in Israel, it's always interesting to wander around towns and cities like Nazareth to see how people are preparing for Christmas and to enjoy all the glitter and lights of the Christmas decorations. So let’s wander around Nazareth and have a look at what Nazareth looks like and what the citizens are doing one evening, just a few days before Christmas Eve.
