Amazon has operated in China for quite some time now and they are finally entering the ebook market with a mixture of paid and free ebooks with a cost range of $0 to $7 USD.
Amazon is going global. According to theVerge, Amazon has begun operations in India in late August and is, although operating in China for some time, bringing their products on the table - the ebook market to be more specific.
As of the moment, Amazon is releasing its Kindle application to the Chinese application market for download. The Kindle application is now available on the Android marketplace as well as the Apple AppStore market.
Amazon is currently focusing primarily on Chinese based and published ebooks rather than an international solution. However, this may change soon depending on the popularity and consumer response in the Chinese market.
In terms of hardware wise, it is expected for Amazon to make its Kindle devices available really soon. Reuters state that the "China's e-reader market is dominated by Hanwang Technology e-readers and Shanda Cloudary's Bambook, but many Chinese people buy Kindles from overseas". However, Amazon will also be competing with Dang Dang Inc and 360Buy in the retail ebook platform.
Amazon's former China chief told Reuters this year that the company was in talks with Chinese publishers on content deals and hoped to launch the Kindle within two years.
