While mainstream media is virtually silent on Mr. Obama’s Benghazi foreign policy debacle, the notion that the administration campaigned while about 150 well-armed terrorists killed our ambassador and torched our embassy has Americans fuming.
According to a Fox News report published Sunday, "an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. consulate and subsequent attack several hours later on the annex itself was denied by the CIA chain of command -- who also told the CIA operators twice to "stand down" rather than help the ambassador's team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11."
Meanwhile, the administration refuses to answer important questions like why multiple requests for security for the unfortified embassy were declined by the administration as al-Qaeda was building a presence in Libya. Why did the administration mislead Americans over the well-planned assault on our embassy with televised stories about an anti-Muslim video and a spontaneous protest that never happened? Now Americans are learning, mostly because Fox News is pursuing the foreign policy cover up, that operatives on the ground at the consulate pleaded for help for hours, pleas that met with orders for pertinent military teams to “stand down.”
Americans are left with a larger potentially withering question for the White House: Who gave the order to take no action in defense of these heroic Americans in Libya? Much belatedly, and while under immense political pressure, Mr. Obama claims he gave the order to do whatever it takes to protect our people.
However, after floating its fictional “spontaneous demonstration” gone awry story days after the consulate killings, Americans no longer trust what Mr. Obama says during his campaign speeches about Benghazi. They want the commander-in-chief to explain why his administration refused to reinforce the Libya embassy for months despite repeated requests, why the phony stories about videos and demonstrations despite immediate evidence that the attack was planned and executed by an al-Qaeda affiliate and why the administration ordered a military stand down during the seven-hour sustained attack.
These are not complicated questions, and the American people deserve a President who will not cower behind “no comment” spokespersons until after the election.
With few foreign policy accomplishments in his quiver, the President needs to come clean on Benghazi. The American people can take the truth, but they will not accept this run for cover on Benghazi.
A few brave Navy Seals and others fought to their deaths to defend our doomed political Ambassador, they weren’t afforded military cover by the administration.
Why then, should Mr. Obama be afforded political cover about what he knew, and when he knew it?
