Marketing software provider HubSpot announces they will be expanding to Europe with the opening of their European headquarters in January 2013 in Dublin, Ireland.
Inbound Marketing company Hubspot’s new European base is expected to create 150 new jobs in the Irish capital for the next three years and will be a welcome boost for the Irish economy.
Hubspot was co-founded 6 years ago by Dharmesh Shan, currently the company’s Chief Technology Officer and Brian Halligan, now Hubspot’s CEO, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Cambridge, Massachusetts, based firm now serves over 8,000 customers from 36 countries and has almost 300 employees in the United States. In 2011, Hubspot had revenues exceeding $30 million. Its international business is already growing at 200% per year, and HubSpot projects that 20% of its revenue will come from its global market within the next three years.
In a statement, reported on Irish website Studentnews, Hubspot’s CEO Halligan said, “HubSpot-powered businesses personalize their websites, emails and all marketing with dynamic content that nurtures their prospects and customers. So we want to personalize the HubSpot experience for our global marketplace. We’re looking to hire the best marketing and sales talent in Dublin to help us ‘rewrite the book’ on how to market in Europe.”
The expansion of Hubspot will provide a timely boost to the beleaguered Irish economy which has seen unemployment rocket since the 2008 financial crisis. Ireland’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton welcomed the development, saying that HubSpot opening their first branch in Ireland is clear proof of the country’s competitiveness in hosting internet business companies.
Speaking to The Irish Times, Bruton said: “That this transformational US marketing Software Company is locating its first branch office in Ireland and establishing its international headquarters here is very welcome. Marketing software is an important high-growth sector, and HubSpot’s announcement today is a recognition that Ireland is now an increasingly attractive location for the most compelling internet business to open facilities and create jobs.”
In setting up a Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA) HQ in Dublin, Hubspot will by no means be a pioneer. Ireland already hosts the EMEA operations of the likes of Google, Facebook, Salesforce, and LinkedIn and is often described as a ‘Digital Hub’.
The decision was also welcomed by Barry O'Leary, CEO of the Irish development Agency, IDA Ireland who said, "The decision by HubSpot to locate a new EMEA headquarters in Ireland further enhances Ireland's reputation as the Internet capital of Europe. This is a fast-growing company and its location here is in keeping with one of the key targets in IDA's strategy 'Horizon 2020' -- to attract investment from the employment intensive software and services sector. I wish HubSpot every success with this venture and offer the continued support of IDA Ireland."
Hubspot has gained a reputation from the smallest Internet businesses upwards during the six years of its existence. The company’s web marketing guides and tools, often free to entice smaller businesses to take advantage of Hubspot’s expertise, are both well written and, more importantly, understandable to the internet novice who may have business expertise but be lacking in skills when it comes to setting up and growing a web-based business.
The Hubspot announcement came on top of two other jobs boosts for the Irish economy this week. RTE News reported that catalogue retailer Argos would be taking on nearly 700 additional staff to work in its Irish branches over the busy Christmas period whilst Radio Systems PetSafe Europe announced the creation of 56 new jobs over three years at its European headquarters based at Dundalk, Co. Louth.
