This week images of a two-faced cat began to go viral on the web after the photos were placed on Reddit, YouTube and Facebook.
When the images of Venus the two-faced cat surfaced, many
questioned the photos' authenticity, prompting people to question if the pictures were enhanced by Photoshop, if the cat had been dyed, or even spray painted to create the unique looking cat.
Venus has a face that is divided down the middle. One side of her face is black with a green eye, the other side calico with a blue eye.
According to
NBC's Today, Venus is indeed real and the television show had Venus and her owners, Chris and Christina, in for a visit.
“We’ve heard everything from Photoshop to we’ve dyed half of her face. This is just the way she was born, that’s it, " said Christina, who did not want her last name used, reported TODAY.
It was said Venus was a stray feral cat living on a farm in North Carolina when Christina first heard about her from a friend on Facebook. Chris and Christina live in Florida and Christina knew immediately she wanted to bring Venus home.
“We have an orange tabby and a black tuxedo at home, so when I first saw her, I said, ‘Oh my gosh, she looks like a combination of both our cats,’’’ Christina said. “We didn’t at that time see the eyes, so Chris’s first reaction was, ‘We do not need any more animals.’ When we zoomed in on her eyes, we were just awestruck. I said, ‘We just have to have this cat.’’’
The farmer gave permission and off Venus went to Florida.
It is believed Venus is a rare Chimera cat, although she noted her cat has not been DNA-tested.
Tested or not, the distinctive cat is not a creation of any technological program, she's 100 percent real. Christina has also posted several
YouTube videos, which have gotten hundreds of thousands of views.
Christina has also set up a
Facebook page for Venus which can be viewed here.
Last year
Digital Journal reported about
another rare cat named Frank 'n Louie. Frank 'n Louie had set the record for being the longest living cat with two faces. Unlike Venus, Frank 'n Louie have two separate faces, including two noses, three eyes and two mouths; the cat has one brain and one stomach. Frank 'n Louie is known as a Janus cat.
