The Travel Channel's Adam Richman went on a quest for the best sandwich in America and found one of the top three in coastal Georgia, along with the "best banana pudding on Earth".
For his Travel Channel show
Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America, Richman divided the United States into 10 regions and the winner of each region would compete in the Championship Finale held Thursday.
In the episode "
Best Sandwich in America: The South," Richman tasted three well-known sandwiches from the region -- the Asian flank steak sandwich (from Mitchell Delicatessen in Nashville, TN), the chicken conquistador (from Zunzi's in Savannah, GA) and the chicken cheddar biscuit (from Time-Out in Chapel Hill, NC).
The best sandwich of the South was deemed to be
Zunzi's Takeout & Catering's chicken Conquistador, which consists of baked chicken breast, served with lettuce, tomato, and special sauce on French bread.

In the last episode of the show called "Best Sandwich: The Final Contestants," the Conquistador competed against nine other regional finalists and two wild cards and eventually made it to the final three. Ultimately, Zunzi's sandwich tied for second in the Best Sandwich in America
Championship Finale.

On a recent trip to Zunzi's, located at 108 E York St. in Savannah's historic district, I found Richman's assessment that "The chicken is truly fall-apart tender" to be deliciously true. My attempts at finding out the ingredients of the special secret sauces were responded to with smiles, so I decided not to waste anymore time...it was time to try the Conquistador, chosen as one of the best sandwiches in America. It was delightful. The chicken is moist and flavorful, and it is fall-apart tender. And the sauces, whatever the ingredients may be, add even more flavor and zest to the Conquistador.

Adam Richman has been in Savannah before. I found this out while driving on Waters street and seeing a sign at
Sweet Potatoes Endearing Food restaurant that read "'Best Banana Pudding On Earth' Man v. Food." Richman took time off from his Travel Channel show
Man v. Food to seek the best sandwich in America.

Knowing that Savannah is home to one of the best sandwiches in the nation, it only seemed right to check-out what Richman considers one of the best desserts. So, I stopped at Sweet Potatoes and ordered the banana pudding. To learn the ingredients of this very tasty treat, go to this

I also asked what Richman had eaten for his main course. The waitress told me that he had the 1/2 portion of Peach Glazed, BBQ Chicken. Oh my, it's delicious, y'all!
