Los Angeles - The nominations for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were announced Tuesday. Drake and Rihanna lead the nominees with 5 nominations a piece including (Video of the Year "We Found Love," "Take Care.").
Drake's "Take Care" is also nominated for Best Cinematography, HipHopDX reports.
Newcomer A$AP Rocky received a Best Editing nomination for "Goldie." Jay-Z and Kanye's West's "Paris," and Beyonce's "Countdown" also received nominations in that category.
According to The Hollywood Gossip, Odd Future singer Frank Ocean is nominated for two awards, and Katy Perry, last year's biggest winner, is up for 4 awards.
Fan voting for all general categories opened Tuesday morning at 6:30 am EST. Fans can vote online at http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2012/ or on their cell phones at http://m.mtv.com/.
Best New Artist can be voted on through text or on MTV's official Facebook page. Verizon subscribers can vote on any category by texting "VMA" to 22444. MTV reports that all voters who text "VMA" to 22444 will automatically be entered into a sweepstakes to win a trip to the 2013 VMAs.
Voting for all categories besides Best New Artist category will be closed on August 24. Voting for the Best New Artist will continue throughout the show, which airs in Los Angeles on September 6 at 8 pm.

The only performance announced so far is by British-Irish boy band One Direction. More performances should be announced soon.
