This time last year I went on a wondrous trip to St. Petersburg. This article documents some of the nice sights and interesting things I saw during that time.
The city has a distinctive aura about it that is quite difficult to convey. However if you have not yet visited this city (I'd highly recommend you do so) I hope that through these photos I can convey to you how beautiful the city is.
From the age Catherine the Great, to the Tzars, to the Bolshevik revolutionaries to the horrific siege in World War II to the fall of communism St. Petersburg has seen a lot of history. And as a city situated on Russia's frontier with Europe it is probably Russia's (if not Europe's) most cultured city as well as arguably by far its most historic.

After a river tour of the Neva River my group and I were treated to a random street band generating a lively atmosphere outside the historical Winter Palace.
Especially considering it was 3.A.M.
