A customer who complained that her Burger King flame grilled burger was microwaved received an abusive email rant calling her a "plank" and suggesting she eat at McDonald's in future.
When Charlotte Chamberlain received a microwaved burger instead of the flame grilled product advertised by
Burger King, she made a formal complaint to the company.
To her surprise she received an email rant which read "Message from the King. If you want cold food you only have to ask, you plank. In future could you please go to Macs. Ha Ha Ha." The
Daily Mail reported Ms. Chamberlain said "I was absolutely stunned, shocked. I couldn’t believe a big company could treat a customer like this."
It turned out the message had been sent by a disgruntled former Burger King franchise owner who had fallen out with the company and hijacked their email system. Ms. Chamberlain was one of about 15 customers to be on the receiving end of the Corby Burger King's previous managements wit.
Burger King apologized for the email but confirmed that their flame grilled burgers are microwaved as "a standard quality measure to ensure they are safe and hygienic." The company said ‘If a customer would rather their sandwich is not put in the microwave, they are free to request this."
