As the economic crisis in Greece worsens, exacerbated by the lack of an elected government, Greek prisons are running out of food to feed the prisoners.
Soup kitchens feed the hungry in Athens. Suicides due to financial despair become daily events. As people in Greece go hungry, the government has run out of funds to ensure food supplies are maintained to the prisons.
Hellas Frappe reports the the result is hundreds of detainees are becoming malnourished.
According to a report in Pro Thema the prison in Corinth has "not even one grain of rice" left following a supply stoppage from the nearby military camp.
Additionally "The prisons in Patra and Alikarnassos have also been experiencing food supply problems lately, as the prisoners who cannot afford to buy food from the prison canteen are left without food."
Locals in Corinth have been collecting food for the starving prisoners, as a token of solidarity.
