Forty-nine-year-old Lawrence Deptola had an unusual choice of a weapon to use during his alleged crime. He attempted to rob three separate banks, but was highly unsuccessful.
On Thursday April 12, 2012, police received a call from Key Bank and showed up after a report was made of an attempted robbery.
This was the third failed bank robbery Deptola performed during his short spree of criminal behavior. Employees from the two previous banks, also located in Utica, claimed that the man came into their facility and was wielding a plunger while demanding money from the employees.
The employees from the third bank, Key Bank, also reported the strange plunger-wielding man came into the bank and was screaming obscenities while demanding money.
Police arrive on the scene and find Deptola, who then fled from the bank on foot. Police chased him down and made an arrest, charging him with third-degree robbery.
No one was injured during the attempts and no money was taken.
