Irreconcilable differences. That's the reason Latin pop singer Marc Anthony gave in divorce papers he filed this week from singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, ending their seven-year marriage, Reuters reported.
“That was my biggest dream, and I really worked hard at it. We both did,” Jennifer Lopez told
Vanity Fair in her first interview after she announced that she and Marc Anthony were divorcing last year.
Now, Anthony, a top-selling salsa singer and minority owner of the Miami Dolphins NFL team, who filed the petition under his real name Marco Muniz on April 9, according to documents filed at Los Angeles Superior Court, decided to make the next move
Reuters reported.
Anthony also filed for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's 4-year-old twins, Max and Emme.
People Magazine writes that Anthony is "asking the court to deny her spousal support, should it be requested."
Although the TV power couple's separation date is listed as "to be determined," they publicly announced their breakup last summer,
People Magazine writes.
"We have decided to end our marriage," the couple said in a
statement to People magazine.
"This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time," the statement added.
On the rebound
When asked in a September interview with ABC news if he was ready to date again, Anthony side stepped the question.
"That's like asking a boxer in the twelfth round if he's going to retire or not. … He'll always say, 'I'm done. I'm done.' You know what I mean? And then two weeks later is when you ask him," Anthony told
ABC News.
"So give me two weeks," he added, laughing.
...Or at least four months. In January, Marc Anthony, publicly revealed that he was dating Venezuelan model Shannon de Lima,
Fox News reported.
"A mi @Shadelima mi estatua de libertad. Besos bebe," Anthony wrote on Twitter – which translates to, "To @Shadelima my statue of liberty. Kisses baby."
He also posted a photo to Facebook of him and De Lima, 24, kissing,
According to
Hola.com, De Lima has a four-year-old son Daniel, from a previous marriage, whom she shares with actor Manuel Coco Sosa.
Meanwhile, Lopez has also rebounded from the split, dating Los Angeles-based dancer Casper Smart, 25, since November,
NY Daily News writes.

The pop diva, who features with Smart in her latest music video "Dance Again", just gifted a customized white Dodge Ram truck to Smart who turned 25 last Friday, reported
People magazine.
Lopez "knew that Casper really wanted a truck, and Casper was very excited about the generous gift," a source told the magazine.
Lopez also Tweeted: "@BEAUcasperSMART 'Beau has a birthday we're so glad we hope it[']s the happiest Birthday Beau ever has!' #singingtweet. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAR!!!"
What Caused the Split?
The truth was simple, Anthony told
ABC News. The marriage just stopped working.
"People are trying to peg it on things because it was so shocking. It was like, it must have been something…It wasn't something sensationalistic," Anthony said.
“Sometimes we don’t realize that we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way," Lopez told Vanity Fair. "if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now.”
Lopez's marriage to Anthony was her third and it was the second marriage for Anthony.
