The star of Harry Potter says that he had a problem with alcohol and is now clean and sober. Daniel Radcliffe told U.K.'s G.Q. magazine that he stopped drinking last summer after realizing he had a problem.
According to the interview, Radcliffe began drinking two years ago on the set of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. After completing the filming of the last Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 2, Radcliffe came to grips that alcohol was playing too large a role in his life.
The young star says he managed to avoid the paparazzi while under the influence. That's not completely true though. Radcliffe was captured by Celebrity-gossip.net celebrating his 21st birthday last summer downing shots of vodka.
Saying that there is no shame in having a quiet life that doesn't even involve drinking, Radcliffe stepped away from the partying lifestyle. As he travels his road to sobriety, he skipped the film's premiere to avoid temptation.
"I'm actually enjoying the fact that I can have a relationship with my girlfriend [Olive Uniacke] where I'm really pleasant and not fucked up totally all the time ... As much as I would love to be the person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn't work for me. I'd rather just sit at home and read, or go out to dinner with someone, or talk to someone I love, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh."
Radcliffe is currently on Broadway starring in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
