Singer Glen Campbell, 75, has announced that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, reports People Magazine. The announcement came as the singer begins plans of a farewell tour this fall.
Campbell's wife Kim said in an interview with
People that the singer may sing a lyric wrong while on stage and they didn't want the audience to think that he was drunk.
"Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer," says Kim. "But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn’t want people to think, 'What's the matter with him? Is he drunk?' "
Campbell has been dealing with short term memory loss for some time but the diagnosis of Alzheimer's came just six months ago.
Campbell said that he still loves making music. The singer has sold over 45 million albums during his career.
