47-year old Dominique Cottrez in being held in police custody after admitting to smothering her eight newborn children to death
The disturbing discovery of the infants' bodies in a village outside of Lill set off the investigation that led to Cottrez' detainment and admission.
As the BBC reports, the children are believed to have been born and killed throughout the 1990's and early 2000's.
In a bizarre turn of events, it was revealed that Cottrez undertook all of her pregnancies and births alone at home after having a bad experience with a first birth at a hospital.
Cottrez' heavy weight reportedly allowed her to completely conceal all of the pregnancies from her husband. Both she and he claim that he had no knowledge or involvement.
The babies' bodies had been wrapped in sealed bags and stored in and around Cottrez' house as well as the home of her parents.
