Istanbul - A four-year-old climbed the outside of an escalator in an Istanbul shopping centre, precariously dangling eight feet off the ground when he reached the top. A quick-thinking shop owner saved his life.
It isn't clear what compelled the four-year-old boy to wander away from his father and climb on the outside of an escalator. When he reached the top, he looked like he was going to fall.
As the video above shows, a brave shopkeeper ran to the area below the boy and caught him as he fell. Ali Apari is quoted as saying, according to SkyNews: "I ran outside and saw that he was about to fall down. I have health problems but despite that I did my best to catch him when he fell off and I managed to do so."
The rescue was caught on security cameras, showing various angles of the boy's escalator adventure.
The boy is apparently unscathed. He left the mall with his father.
In the video, you can see many passers-by regarding the incident without any attention. In fact, as the boy falls from the escalator into Apari's waiting arms, two people ascend the escalator as if nothing extraordinary is happening.
