It is being reported that Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the Players Championship at Ponte Verda Beach, Fla and the TPC Sawgrass.
On the seventh hole he withdrew from competition with neck pain that he fears might be a bulging disk, according to
ESPN.
Woods said he plans to get an MRI this week. "He said he was having a hard time with the pain, and that there was a tingling sensation on his right side down to his fingers," ESPN reports.
After taking his tee-shot and grimacing in pain Woods called over an official and reportedly withdrew at that moment. Before leaving the course he walked over to his playing partner, Jason Bohn, shook hands but was then driven from the course in a golf cart.
Tiger Woods' withdrawal opens the door for Phil Mickelson to take over the number-one ranking if he can win the tournament. As of the start of play Sunday Mickelson needed to win the tournament today and have Woods finish no higher than sixth in the tournament.
