Detroit, Michigan -Police will seek a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge against a man that the 13-year-old girl met on Facebook.

Police Chief Warren Evans said in a statement, "This is serious reminder to parents who let their children use the Internet. Parents have to be very careful to not allow the computer, particularly the Internet, to become a source of unsupervised entertainment like a television. There are significant risks associated with allowing children to socialize through sites like Facebook or MySpace."
Evens added, "These computers need to be in an area of the home where the child can expect at anytime their mother or father will pass by and look over their shoulder. Just that limitation can be a very effective deterrent to a child acting inappropriately on their natural curiosity."
He also said that parents should know the online passwords used by their children to monitor their activity.
Detroit Police 2nd Deputy Chief John Roach
said that police have submitted a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Facebook and MySpace are among the most popular online communities used by teenagers and young adults.
