Boris Johnson is the mayor of London. During his campaign for this important elected post, Johnson made youth crime one of his key priorities. How ironic then that a recent gallant act of his may show that those policies are not having much effect yet.
The Age of Stupid director Franny Armstrong, was recently walking home in Camden, North London. Suddenly, she was set upon by a gang of iron-bar wielding girls wearing hoodies.
Taken completely by surprise, she called out for help to a passing cyclist, who just happened to be the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
In typically robust style, Johnson demanded to know what the girls were up to. They ran away and Johnson set off in hot pursuit. Having chased the attackers away, Johnson returned and gallantly escorted Armstrong to her home.
Although Armstrong and Johnson are polar political opposites, Armstrong would approve of Johnson’s chosen method of transportation. She is the founder of the 10:10 campaign in the UK, which challenges firms to cut their carbon emissions by 10% in 2010.
The Age of Stupid stars the Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite. He plays a man alone in a cultural ark in the Arctic Ocean in 2055 who tells us the environmental catastrophes that have befallen the world in the period 2005 - 2008 and asks why we didn’t act when we had the chance, before it was too late.
