The Senior Cotto is reported to have ordered Miguel Cotto's handlers to enter Manny Pacquiao's locker room while Freddie Roach and his team are preparing hand wraps and fitting the gloves of the Filipino boxer before he climbs the ring next Saturday night
The reported order from Miguel Cotto Sr. for his handlers to invade the privacy of the Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao while Freddie Roach prepares his ward next Saturday for his encounter with Puerto Rican boxer, is being criticised by boxing fans as sign of distrust for the Hall of Fame trainer.
Earlier Team Cotto announce they will send inspection team inside the locker room of the famous Filipino boxer while he is being fitted with this boxing gloves by Freddie Roach and his team.
In a google hosted report by AFP, Miguel Cotto's handlers say 'they will carefully scrutinize the gloves and hands of Manny Pacquiao' before the popular Filipino boxer climbs the ring next Saturday.
Miguel Cotto Sr said Tuesday they blundered by not inspecting Antonio Margarito's gloves prior to Cotto's lone career loss in July of last year and vow never to let it happen again.
"We only commit the same error once," said Cotto Sr. "We will never make that mistake again."
The increased vigilance comes after Margarito was caught using "loaded wraps" in his following fight against Shane Mosley in January.
Boxing fans are saying that trainer Freddie Roach is a 'different breed' compared to other boxing coaches. Roach is known for his honesty and integrity in all his professional actions especially in the sports of boxing where he was once an active participant. Roach was a professional boxer before becoming a trainer and boxing coach.
Roach integrity as an honest and straight forward coach is evidenced by his countless awards in testimony of his contribution to boxing sport. He is a member of the Boxing Hall of Fame and many times a recipient of trainer of the year and other prestigious awards. Boxing fans say Roach will not sacrifice his integrity by doing something that will tarnish his character as a professional coach and trainer.
Although boxing regulators allow the opposing camps to observe hand wrapping and gloves fitting by boxers before the start of the fight, Cotto camp may be better off by just sending their emissaries discreetly to the Pacquiao locker room without divulging the plan to the media. By doing so, they will earn goodwill points from Freddie Roach.
At this point, fans will have the impression that Freddie Roach is not trustworthy despite of his impressive credentials.
