Winnipeg - A six-year-old boy walking home with his grandma was beaten and robbed of little bags he was carrying home from a birthday party.
Winnipeg police said the child and his grandmother were going home from a birthday party at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Spence area of the city when the attack occurred.
"The victims were confronted by an unknown male who demanded the boy’s bags," Winnipeg police said.
"He refused to turn them over resulting in the suspect physically assaulting him. He did not require medical attention for minor injuries sustained as a result of the assault," said an emailed police police statement.
The suspect was located in the area by officers 30 minutes later.
"The 17-year-old male was charged robbery with violence and a variety of Court Order breaches and detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre," police said.
