A Toronto Transit Commission streetcar driver for the 511 route was assaulted Sunday evening at about 8:45 p.m. The assault took place at the foot of the Bathurst route going towards the CNE.
A teenage passenger Christina told Digital Journal that a man approached the driver and demanded to be let off before the bus stop. When the driver told the man it was against policy the man started to cuss and hit the driver. Christina said that two men, one from the streetcar and one from outside rushed to the driver's aid and pulled the attacker off of the streetcar.
The streetcar was filled with passengers going to the Exhibition.
The passengers quickly used their cell phones to notify the police of the incident.
Another passenger who wished to remain unnamed told Digital Journal that the passengers ran to the back of the streetcar and exited from the back doors. By the time that the passengers had left the bus the attacker was being restrained by a group of men until the police arrived. She also said that the TTC was very quick to respond to the incident.

A TTC worker told Digital Journal although he could not give his name and that his statements were unofficial that the driver was relatively okay. He has a bump to his head and a cut on his hand. The TTC employee said that the driver was understandably emotionally distressed.
Sargent M. Masters of the Toronto Police Department told Digital Journal that the attacker has been taken into custody for the assault of the streetcar driver.
