The war ended between Israel and Lebanon in 2006. However, tensions are now brewing again between the two nations, as Hezbollah's Nasrallah threatens Israel.
If Israel were to bomb and attack Beirut’s southern suburbs then they would retaliate by bombing Tel Aviv, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
threatened on Monday.
Israel has done it before in the past. Three years ago, Hezbollah fought against Israel for 34-days after two Israeli soldiers were captured during a raid.
1,200 Lebanese, mostly civilians, were killed during the war, while 160 Israelis, who were mostly soldiers, died.
Al-Akhbar newspaper quoted Hezbollah’s Nasrallah as saying, “The equations that used to apply have now changed. Now it is 'the southern suburbs for Tel Aviv' and not 'Beirut for Tel Aviv'. I tell you, and this is not muscle-flexing, the Israeli army will be destroyed in any future war. And any force from the enemy's army that steps on Lebanese land, will be destroyed, and that is a fact.”
There has been no exchanging of gunfire between the two for three years.
Israel’s military struck schools, neighborhoods, roads, bridges, homes, airport runways, water networks and so on. Soldiers vehemently attacked Beirut’s southern suburbs and Shi’ite southern Lebanon, where Israel withdrew in 2000.
Currently, the United Nations hold peacekeepers in the region after explosions occurred in early July in southern Lebanon. A United Nations spokesperson said that the weapons are a direct violation of
Council Resolution 1701 which ended the deadly war in 2006.
