The Rick Mercer Report has won the Best Comedy award at the prestigious annual television festival held in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Canadian funny man, Rick Mercer was awarded the prestigious
Golden Rose for best Comedy at the Rose d'Or festival earlier this week. The show awarded the Rose was when Rick Mercer went to the National Research Council of Canada and experienced zero gravity, he "takes out the trash" in Edmonton, and you really should listen to his rant, it is quite good. link. The last time a Canadian production won in the Comedy category was
in 1993 when Kids In The Hall won.
Canadian productions did remarkably well this year at this years festival, winning four Golden Roses out of the twelve possible categories and individual Canadians received two Honorary Roses.
Along side Rick Mercer in the Comedy category, a Canadian production, Windfall & Misfortunes won the best Drama award. Other Canadian productions awarded a Golden Rose were
MI High, Whack The Mole, The MI High Alternate Reality Game in the Multi Platform category, and
The Telephone in the Pitch Pilot category.
George Anthony and Sheena MacDonald both won Honorary Roses at the 2009 festival. Anthony is a Creative Consultant for CBC and also is involved in The Rick Mercer Report, and MacDonald is the Director of Special Projects at the Canadian Film Centre.
An American production won in the best Reality category and also was awarded the Best of 2009. I Survived A Japanese Game Show, a reality show were ten Americans show up to take part in a reality show, not knowing what kind of show it is, and are whisked away to Tokyo, Japan to take part in a Japanese reality show called Majide (本気で).
