While daughter Meghan has been making the media rounds, her father John McCain has too. On Sunday on the Meet the Press he declared he hasn't a favorite for the Republican Presidential candidate for 2012 but that he and Palin are good friends.
John McCain had proclaimed Sarah Palin as ready to assume the Presidency and the appropriate choice for Vice President during the election of 2008. He did so with gallantry and never backed down. Known as an honorable man and a maverick, what else might he have done then?
On Sunday
McCain was on Meet the Press where he was asked all sorts of questions, but mostly about his considerations for 2012. Specifically he was questioned regarding whether or not he would support Sarah Palin as the Presidential candidate for 2012. He declared his friendship for his former running mate and her family, underlining how important that is in the mix.
John McCain mentioned he thought it a bit early to make a conjecture about who might be the right candidate to run for President in the
2012 campaign. The media had asked these questions before, but they came up again on the weekend. McCain once more underlined his position. He said Utah's Jon Huntsman, Louisiana's Bobby Jindal and Minnesota's Tim Pawlenty seemed to be reasonable potential candidates.
Last month in February McCain was
interviewed by Katie Couric. He went back to his arguments about tax cuts and business support and traditional Republican platforms. He also raised some questions because he wasn't adamant enough on issues regarding birth control as some who commented declared. Others watching the broadcast simply yawned, mentioned it was the same tune that couldn't get a dance before somehow, but said it in much more strident tones.
McCain appeared poised, calm and direct in his loyal oppositional statements on Sunday. This continuing presence in the mainstream media likely means that he will continue to be around to give his views as he is viewed by some to be the temperate voice of the Republican party and worthy of respect.
