George Obama, the half-brother of President Barack Obama, escaped prison time after Kenyan police dropped drug charges against him.
George Obama was recently arrested by Kenyan police in a drug raid after they found marijuana in his home. On Saturday, however, police released Obama and dropped the charges.
Kenyan police spokesman Eric Kiraithe told CNN:
"Being found with people who are in possession of cannabis is a petty offense."
If Obama had been charged, it would have carried a minimum sentence of up to one year in prison, as well as a possible fines.
U.S. President Barack Obama met his half-brother only once.
George Obama lives with his mother’s extended family in Huruma, a Nairobi slum.
